“Genotype|Phenotype” is a digital jacquard woven piece created in response to an ancestral DNA test. The individual colors represent the percentage of ancestry from different countries/regions; the blending of those different places has created the person I am today. By adding text from the poem “Blackberries” which is about being black and queer, this piece questions what DNA tells us, what appearances mean and what we still can’t qualify/quantify today.
